Brayden Hilton Captures First Place in State Debate Competition

Wins the Student Congress

Congratulations go out to junior Brayden Hilton for placing first in Student Congress at the VHSL Debate State competition this past Saturday. Hilton won the competition which requires students to write legislation on tough issues and then defend and debate their bills.

Coach Leslie Truax said Hilton started debate as an 8th grader and has grown more skilled and confident every year. She is looking forward to what Hilton and his teammates can do next season.

Softball wins twice over Staunton

First Win since 2016

The varsity softball team picked up two wins since spring break over Staunton High School. The wins ended a losing streak dating back to the 2016 season according to scores on MaxPreps.

The Generals dropped 10-0 road decision to the Rappahannock Co. Panthers on April 14. The Generals then went on the road to defeat the Staunton Storm 14-3 at Gypsy Hill Park on April 20. Kaitlyn Sullivan was the winning pitcher and had 5 strikeouts. Debra Moffitt, Reice Hedrick, and Sullivan had base hits. Sullivan, Alicia Bare, and Virginia McDonald doubled. Senior Amy Hedrick had an in-park home run. According to scores recorded on MaxPreps, it was the Generals' first win since the 2016 season.

The Generals then traveled to Clarke Co. on April 27 and lost by a score of 8-1. Bre Franklin singled twice, Catcher Emma Saeler also had a base hit. Hedrick tripled to drive Saeler across the plate.

The Generals then picked up their second win of the season on April 28 by defeating the Staunton Storm with a walk-off double by Emma Saeler in the bottom of the 7th to win 9-8. Freshman pitcher Kaitlyn Sullivan had 10 strikeouts and allowed only 6 hits on the mound. At the plate, Sullivan tripled and singled, with 4 RBIs. Catcher Emma Saeler had a triple to go along with the walk-off double. Bre Franklin added a double and a single.

In JV softball action, the Generals lost to Rapp on April 13 by a score of 19-2 but then followed that up with 3 straight wins. The Generals defeated Staunton on April 20 at home by a score of 18-15. The JV softballers then defeated Madison Co. at home with a score of 23-13. Finally, on April 28 the Generals traveled to Staunton and defeated the Storm by a score of 27-16.

Baseball wins 4 out of 6 since break

Record stands at 8-5

The boys baseball team has been battling stiff competition on the diamond. The Generals are getting ready to finish strong down the home stretch of the season.

On April 12, the Generals defeated Luray at Rebel Park by a score of 8-1. Jaden Click threw a 4-hitter on the mound and also had 2 singles at the plate. Adrian Chaparro-Vann had a double, a single, and 2 RBIs. Brayden Smith had 2 singles and an RBI. Jordan Polk added 2 singles and an RBI. Seth Moomaw also contributed a double, single, and an RBI.

The Generals traveled to Rapp. Co. on April 14 and suffered a tough 1-0 loss to the Panthers in 8 innings. Dawson Moomaw went the distance for the Generals only allowing one hit and striking out 13. Joey McNamara had 2 singles to lead the Generals. Click, D. Moomaw, and Vann had a single each. '

The Generals then traveled to Staunton on April 20 and picked up a tough 5-3 win over the Storm. Brayden Smith pitched 5 innings allowing 3 hits and striking out 10. Seth Moomaw had 2 singles, Click added a double and 2 RBIs and D. Moomaw had a single.

The next day the Generals traveled to Madison Co. and dropped a tough 2-1 decision to the Mountaineers. Dawson Moomaw allowed one hit and struck out 10. Moomaw added a double at the plate and Click added a single and an RBI. S. Moomaw had a single.

The Generals finished the stretch with a 13-12 win over the Staunton Storm at Rebel Park on April 28. It was Senior Night for the Generals and they pulled off the win walk-off style in 9 innings to celebrate.

The JV Generals have been on a roll. The JV baseballers have won 5 out of 6 games since Spring break. The Generals defeated Luray on April 11 at home by a score of 6-3. Two days later the JV Generals took down the Rapp. Co. Panthers with a 5-2 victory at home. The Generals then defeated the Staunton Storm in a pitchers' duel at Rebel Park by a score of 3-1. The JV diamond dusters finished off the 4-game homestand with a 7-0 win over Madison Co. On April 26, the Generals traveled to Clarke Co. and suffered a 12-3 loss. The Generals bounced back on April 28 to win over Staunton on the road by a score of 9-6.

Varsity Track runs to success

Teams have home meet vs. Clarke and Rapp

The boys and girls track teams competed at home against Clarke Co. and Rapp Co. on April 20.

Jadyn Foster placed first in the 3200 to garner the Generals only first place finish on the girls side. Sister Jordyn Foster got a second place finish in the 1600. Faith Halterman added two second place finishes in the discus and shot-put. Yionnah Lonas had third place finishes in the 100 and the shot. She added a fourth place finish in the 200. Anna Simmons had a third place finish in the in the discus and Ashlyn Whitman finished third in the 400. Trinity Stanley added a fourth place in the 800 and Scarlet Alexander a fourth in the 100. The Generals won the 4 x 800.

On the boys side, the Generals were led by Stuart Pirtle. Pirtle had first place finishes in the triple jump, 110 hurdles, and 300 hurdles. He added a second in the long jump, a third in the high jump, and a fourth place in the discus. Jesse Lemon had a first place in the 400, a second in the triple jump, and a fourth place finish in the long jump. Jacob Lemon added two second place finishes in the 100 and 200. Nate Farmer picked up second in the 800 and Micah Stapleton had a second in the 400. Thomas Brecht had a third place in the shot-put. Sam Lutz added a fourth in the 200. The Generals won the 4 x 800 and the 4 x 400 relays.

The Generals track team will host their invitational on Saturday, May 7. Fifteen schools are currently scheduled to participate.

Girls Soccer keeps improving

Team has won 3 matches since Spring break

The Mountain View girls soccer team has been improving all season. The Generals are still chasing league-leading Clarke and Luray but the young squad has shown good improvement.

On April 8, the Generals defeated East Rockingham 6-2. Annika Dellinger had 5 goals and Madison Poole added one. Tanija Davis had 4 saves in goal.

On April 12, the Generals hosted Luray and dropped an 8-0 decision.

The Generals hosted the East Rockingham Eagles on April 20. The Generals came away with a 5-2 win. Annika Dellinger led the Generals with 4 goals and an assist. Kezia Despirito had a goal and 2 assists.

The Generals avenged an earlier home loss to Madison Co. with a convincing 6-3 road win. Annika Dellinger had 5 goals and an assist. Madison Poole added the other goal. Maddison Hoover added 2 assists for the Generals.

The Generals lost at home on April 26 to league-leading Clarke 10-2. Dellinger had both goals for the Generals. Ayvah Wolverton had two assist. MaryKate Manning had 17 saves for the Generals.

The MVHS boys soccer team has won 3 out of 5 games since spring break.

On April 12, the Generals traveled to Luray and defeated the Bulldogs by a score of 5-3. The Generals then defeated the Rapp. Co. Panthers, on April 14, by a score of 4-1 on the road. The Generals finished up a 3-game winning streak with a 6-2 win over Rapp. Co. at home on April 20. The Generals dropped a home game against Madison Co. 6-0 on April 21 and an away match against Clarke Co. on April 26 by a 6-0 score. at

The JV boys dropped 3 straight matches. On April 12 the Generals fell to Luray by a score of 5-3. Then on April 26, the JV team fell to Clarke Co. 12-3. The Generals dropped a 5-2 contest at home to Page Co.

The Generals netters have won 4 out of 6 matches since spring break. The Generals defeated Strasburg 8-1 at home on April 11. The Generals then dropped a 9-0 decision to county rival Central on the road. The Generals returned to action on April 20 to defeat Clarke Co. by a 6-3 score. The Generals then defeated Page Co. on April 21 by a score of 9-0. The Generals then lost to East Rockingham at New Market Park by a score of 7-2 on April 25. The Generals finished the stretch with a 7-2 road victory over county rival Strasburg on April 28. The Generals' overall record is 7-3. Individual match results are below.
