Hollingsworth Earns All-State Audition

Junior Clarinet player gets rare audition

Junior Lexi Hollingsworth, a clarinet student, earned an All-State audition. Many band and orchestra students participate in the All-County events and make it in with an audition, but that is limited to SCPS only. Music students also have a District 14 event that is the District Band, Orchestra, and Choir. Students have to audition to make the ensemble, which includes schools from Shenandoah County, Warren County, Fauquier County, Winchester City, and Frederick County. Based on your audition, some students get the privilege to audition to be in the All-State group. These students audition against over 500 students from around the state for just a couple of seats in the ensemble. Lexi auditions this week on February 25 and will not find out until March if she makes it.

All of our band, orchestra, and choir students perform for their State Assessment. Most do not know that students in music have to showcase their knowledge and skillset with prepared selections and a sight-reading. They will have three judges adjudicate the prepared pieces and one judge adjudicate their sight-reading performance. This is comparable to SOL tests that core classes take at the end of the semester to showcase the knowledge from their class.

Three wrestlers place at State tournament

small group improves throughout the season

The Generals wrestling team had three athletes advance to the state meet in Salem last weekend. All three grapplers made it to the semi-finals, but none advanced beyond. Jesse Lemon (138 lbs, fifth), Braxton Biller (160 lbs, fifth), and Hunter Rinker (220 lbs, sixth) represented the Generals at the meet. With all three Generals returning and the addition of some younger wrestlers, the Generals look for more improvement next season.

County rival Strasburg captured the team title for the VHSL Class 2 level.
