Boys Basketball still working for Win

Generals have tough week

The Mountain View High School boys basketball team has yet to win a game this year. After going 0-3 this week against Clarke County, Strasburg, and Luray, the boys fell to 0-10.

The loss to Clarke County on January 22 was a tough one. After being tied with the Eagles through much of the 4th quarter, the Generals fell by a final score of 62-50. Sophomore Johnny Hasley led the team in points (13) and min played (28:11). He also added 5 rebounds and 4 steals. Junior Evan Estep added 9 points for the Generals along with 5 rebounds himself. Senior Dawson Moomaw and Junior Michael Spaur added 8 points each as well.

On January 25, the boys basketball team played its 9th game of the year against county rival Strasburg. The Generals got off to a fast start but starting point guard and senior leader Dawson Moomaw got hurt 1 min into the game and would not return. The Generals however would end the 1st quarter with an 11-9 lead. After a lot of the same in the 2nd quarter for both teams, the Generals took a 25-21 lead into halftime. The 3rd quarter did not fare well for the Mountain View boys as they were outscored 20-2. Turnovers and fouls kept the Generals from ever going on a run and ultimately caused them to be trailing by 14 to start the 4th quarter. A strong 4th quarter led by Junior Evan Estep and the Generals had outscored the Rams in 3 out of 4 quarters. The Rams impressive 3rd quarter proved to be too much though and the final score was 56-45. Mountain View was led in this game by Junior Evan Estep with 15 points while also shooting 100% from the field. Sophomore Johnny Hasley added 11 points and 10 rebounds along with 1 steal. Freshman Caleb Eaton had one of the best offensive games of his young career with 9 points and 6 rebounds. Eaton also led the Generals in min played (30:19-32:00 min).

Mountain View's boys basketball team's rough week continued with a 60-35 loss to Luray High School on January 26. The Generals were outscored in 3 out of 4 quarters and only scored 3 points in a painful 1st quarter. A slight comeback in the 2nd left the team only trailing by 4 at halftime. The second half did not get any better as Luray outscored the boys 37-16. The Generals were led by Sophomore Johnny Hasley with 12 points and 4 rebounds. Junior Michael Spaur had 11 points and 3 rebounds and Senior Ethan Bly added 7 rebounds.

To end the week the boys played county rival Central High School on January 27. The final score was 57-30 in favor of the Falcons as the Generals fell to 0-11 on the year. The Generals were led by Sophomore Johnny Hasley with 11 points and 6 rebounds. Junior Michael Spaur also had 11 points in the matchup. Mountain View will be back at it at home against Bull Run District leading and 2A state powerhouse East Rockingham on January 31.
