There are many opportunities to get involved with during your studies, alongside the other information provided in the Handbook. These are great for connecting with other students, developing your skills and feeling part of the Department and University community. 

SocSoc


SocSoc, our department society, provides a welcoming and inclusive environment for students to participate in a range of social, academic, sport and charity activities and events. SocSoc is organised and led by a student committee. All students in the Department can become a member. 

Clubs and societies


The Students’ Union has over 350 clubs and societies to join to continue your hobbies and interests or to try something new. 


You can also try out a range of clubs, societies and one off social activities via the Give it a Go programme here. 

Sports and fitness


Keep active and look after your wellbeing by joining a Students’ Union sports team or participate in fitness sessions.

Global Opportunities


Students can choose to join a range of opportunities depending on the level of their course, such as studying abroad for a year, participating in summer schools, and gaining work experience. Sheffield Volunteering 


Volunteer with a wide variety of volunteer projects in the local community in with Sheffield Volunteering.

Student Ambassadors


Student Ambassadors represent the Department at University open days and at other events throughout the year. Find out more here. To express your interest in becoming a Student Ambassador, please contact: sociological.studies@sheffield.ac.uk.

Student Undergraduate Research Experience (SURE)


SURE is open to undergraduate students in their penultimate year of study to participate in a research project and gain academic research experience with a supervisor. Applications for the scheme usually open in February for the next academic year.

Social Work Book Club


Students studying MA Social Work can benefit from the book club which meets regularly throughout the year. Students should access Blackboard for more information about how to join.
