Welcome to the Department of Sociological Studies! You may be feeling both excited and nervous about starting your studies. The Department, the University and the Students’ Union are all here to help you feel prepared and supported with starting your studies and student life.

Engage with the Welcome communications from the Department and University to prepare you for starting your studies

Get oriented with the campus using the interactive map
Attend Departmental Welcome events in Intro Week. These events aim to help introduce you to the Department and key staff, prepare you for what to expect from your studies, how to access support if you need it and provide an opportunity to meet other new students.
Access University and Students’ Union events and activities in Intro Week
Complete the level up your skills course in advance of the new academic year to prepare for your new level of study
Successfully complete and pass the mandatory zero credit Introduction to Sociological Studies module SCS1000. This can be completed in your own time and provides an overview and introduction to the Department and University. The module is available on Blackboard from Week 1
Meet with your Academic Tutor who will be your point of contact throughout your studies. Instructions on how to do this are on the FAQ page.
If you have registered late (up to the end of Week 3), ensure that you have contacted your relevant Programme Officer to be allocated to seminar groups, receive your timetable and details of your Academic Tutor
