NCEA Level 3 Textiles
Aims
The aim is for students to develop a broad design knowledge that gives them access to design related careers. They learn practical skills and use complex procedures as they design and develop their outcome. They also get first hand exposure to fashion through experiences, such as Emerging Designer, Hokonui Fashion Awards and the Otago Polytechnic Fashion School.
Skills
Through studying Design - Textiles, students are encouraged to be innovative, creative, and to show initiative. They learn teamwork and communication skills and the importance of contributing to the community both socially and economically.
Assessment
Project work; portfolio submission.
Qualification gained
NCEA Level 3 Technology (Textiles) - full course completion a maximum of 22 credits.
This can be made up from a range of the course achievement standards. A minimum full time course is 18 credits.
Prior knowledge required
NCEA Level 2 Textiles
Entry into the subject will be considered on an individual basis after consultation with the HoD and the Year Level Dean

Learning for senior students opens up pathways that can lead to technology-related careers. Students may access the workplace learning opportunities available in a range of industries or move on to further specialised tertiary study.
