NCEA Level 1 Visual Art
Aims
To develop confidence and ability in the appreciation and production of a variety of modes of visual communication.
Course Content
Established New Zealand and international art practice is studied to support the development of individual ideas for practical work. Drawing, painting, photography, photoshop and mixed media is used throughout the course. Emphasis is placed on critical thinking and visual problem solving in the production of artworks.
Assessment
Internally assessed work comprises of artworks in a range of media which is collated and recorded digitally for moderation purposes. Externally assessed topics are moderated nationally at the end of the year and is in the form of two A1 boards of work produced in the classroom.
Qualification gained
Full course completion — 22 credits in NCEA Visual Arts Level 1
Prior knowledge required
Prior knowledge acquired through Year 10 Art or on submission of a small portfolio of artworks to Head of Department
