NCEA Level 1 Food and Nutrition
Aims
The aim is for students to develop an understanding of the factors that influence the well-being of individuals and families within the home and community and of the actions people take to enhance and sustain those environments. Through the processes of selecting, preparing, cooking, and serving food, students develop their creativity and technological skill and experience a sense of accomplishment.
Course Content
In the context of food technology students learn industry standard food safety and hygiene. Students will use this knowledge and processing procedures to create a food product which meets certain specifications.
Assessment
A variety of assessment tasks are set over the year, these will include written work that will involve a small amount practical cooking.

Full course completion — 19 credits in NCEA Level 1
