NCEA Level 3 Physical Education

Aims

  • To provide learning experiences that challenge and extend students’ beliefs about physical activity and its role in their lifestyle

  • To foster relationships, social skills, and a sense of how they can contribute to the physial activity needs of their community

  • To acquire and develop physical skills and understand factors that influence skill acquisition

  • To encourage a respect for the environment by emphasising safe practice, cultural awareness and conservation

  • To implement and evaluate a range of activities and their influence on people’s health and wellbeing

  • Anatomy and Biomechanics

  • Sociology of Sport

  • Sports Psychology and Motor Skill Learning

  • Health Promotion

Assessment

Assessments are both practical and written. All assessments are internal.

Qualification gained

Full course completion — 20 credits NCEA Level 3 Physical Education (selected from the opportunities below)

Prior knowledge required

Completion of NCEA Level 1 and/or Level 2 Physical Education. A genuine interest in both the academic and practical dimensions of physical activity and physical education.
