NCEA Level 1 Numeracy

Aims

This course is intended for students who have been identified at Year 10 as requiring individual attention in meeting the numeracy requirements for NCEA Level 1 and University Entrance. This course is 100% internally assessed.

Course content

  • This course will focus on the Numeracy Standards that provide an alternative pathway to gain the Numeracy requirements for NCEA Levels 1-3 and University Entrance.

  • The skills associated with Number, Measurement and Statistics will be developed and assessed in the context of other subjects and general life skills

  • There will be two financial unit standards with a focus on understanding debt and budgeting.

Assessment

Assessment of this course will be via a portfolio of naturally occurring evidence built on throughout the full school year.

This course is 100% internally assessed.

Qualification gained

Full course completion - 16 credits at NCEA Level 1

Successful completion of portfolio work results in gaining the 10 Numeracy credits required for NCEA Level 1 and University Entrance

Prior knowledge required

Entry by negotiation with the HOD Mathematics
