NCEA Level 2 Design and Visual Communication

Aims

To equip students with creative and critical thinking skills and visual communication techniques that can be applied to a range of design contexts

Course Content

Students begin the year by investigating the art-deco design era. They are then challenged to generate ideas for a spatial design outcome that incorporates art-deco design features. Students also consider the relevant implications of spatial design when developing their outcome. Students then investigate graphic design conventions and apply these conventions with design software in order to promote their ideas.

Skills

Through studying Design and Visual Communication, students are encouraged to be innovative, creative, and to show initiative. They learn teamwork and communication skills.

Assessment

Students produce a portfolio that is assessed against specific internal achievement standards throughout the year. Selected work is then sent for assessment of the external achievement standards.
