NCEA Level 2 Media Studies

Aims

This course aims to offer the student a critical, practical and appreciative study of the mass media as they encounter it.

Content

  • A study of the key conventions of a film genre

  • An investigation of representations in the media

  • An study of media narrative

  • Pitching, pre-producing, and producing a short film or documentary

Assessment

There are a variety of internal assessment tasks and school examinations. Externally assessed topics are examined nationally at the end of the year.

Qualification gained

NCEA Media Studies Level 2 - full course completion a maximum of 21 credits

Prior knowledge required

Places may be limited owing to the allocation of technical resources.

Note: this course requires students to have literacy skills equivalent to NCEA Level 1 English, in order to cope with the level of analysis expected, as there is a large component of written work involved in the assessment tasks.
