Ride the Tide to the Green Side

SDG 14 targets seek to prevent and reduce marine pollution; further the sustainable management and protection of marine and coastal ecosystems; address the impacts of ocean acidification; regulate harvesting and end overfishing, illegal, unreported and unregulated fishing and destructive fishing practices; conserve marine life areas. We all choose this SDG of diffrent reasons. The main one is overfishing and pollution. It makes us sad to see what people have done to our oceans and body's of water. Oceans and body's of water are one of our biggest resources and we need to keep it clean.

Our central idea is how people affect the functionality of water ecosystems.
Lines of Inqiry
Lines of Inqiry
Our first LOI is An Inquiry into what type of pollution affects all of major rivers and oceans.
Our second LOI is An Inquiry into the impact of overfishing on bodies of water.
Our third LOI is An Inquiry into how different ecosystems are affected by pollution.
Level 1 action
Our Level 1 we collected about 2,000 bottle caps just from our school and most of them could have ended up in our ocean and could have harmed many sea animals. After we collected all the bottle caps we made a mural with them. After the mural was complete we put it in the cafeteria for the whole school to see.
Level 2 action
For our Level 2 action, we volunteered at Marine Resources Center in Palm Bay. We helped make oyster volcanoes which are made up of concrete and a special kind of string that disintegrates in the water so it is safe. Oyster volcanoes are an ecosystem for oysters to live in. Oysters live in coral and boats have been destroying coral so there is nowhere for the oysters to live so they start dying. Oyster volcanoes give a safe environment for the oysters to live.
Level 3- Kaden
Kaden painted rocks that had a message about overfishing and put them on docks around Melbourne, Suntree, Eau Galle, and Cocoa Beach. Overfishing is a really big part of SDG 14 Life Below Water and I wanted to spread awareness.
Level 3- Garrett
Garrett made stickers and passed them out in public. I took action on this by putting links on the stickers about how important it is to fish sustainably.
Level 3- Alex
Alex made a video and sent it to a restaurant that uses plastic straws. I took action in this by saying why plastic straws are bad and giving facts about how to help the environment. I wanted to take action because plastic straws are a big problem for the environment.
Level 3- Saumya
Saumya made a water PSA about the ocean and posted it on my mom's Facebook for 2 weeks. Many people can see the PSA and stop polluting the ocean because the ocean is one of our biggest resources.
