Sustainable Development Goal 12, Responsible Consumption and Production, is the SDG dedicated to doing more with less. Responsible consumption and production is about consuming sustainably and producing with awareness. Consuming sustainably means you only take what you need to prevent wasting what you don’t consume or use. Producing with awareness means that factories and industrial companies are being mindful of the materials they are using to avoid negative mass production that would end up with all materials used in a project in a landfill. SDG 12 is dedicated to resolving material waste, negative mass production, overconsumption, and responsible consumption.
Central Idea
Human desire for growth impacts responsible actions and production in communities worldwide.
Lines of Inquiry
An inquiry into the government's role in responsible consumption and production.
An inquiry into the negative impact of responsible consumption and production on small communities.
An inquiry into the advancements made to reduce waste production and mass consumption.
Level 1 action
For our action 1 we make a PSA that we put on World TV .
Level 2 action
For our Action 2, we decided to volunteer at a local shop called Coastal Market. While doing this action we will clean up in and around the shop to make the market look nicer and to also have all the waste by the back be rid of in a responsible way.
A later development was that we went to ramp park for a clean-up as well to also take the trash out of the water to protect river life.
We reached out to the Market to offer our service to clean their store and around the area to make it more hospitable. We are also allowed to put up posters of our SDG for the time we will be working there.
Level 3 - Mia
For Mia’s Action 3 she made an online story that she regularly publishes on, with a small following of people. The story will be a collection of shorts and informative chapters that will be published by the end of March. Four of them were stories relating to each LOI, and one of all of them, and creating a futuristic kind of sci-fi story of what would happen if SDG 12 was not resolved and how each of our LOIs would affect this future. And the other 3 were informational bits with some of my research.
Level 3 - Elie
Elie’s Level 3 action was handing out magnets that can be put anywhere but he thought it would be best if they were put on cars so then everyone could see them, therefore his action affected more people.
Level 3 - Cole
For Cole’s, he decided to do an animation that tries to convince local stores to use paper bags instead of plastic and gives out info about my SDG.
