Welcome
Welcome to Seymour Middle School. Our faculty and staff are dedicated to helping you be successful. We are enthusiastic about the educational programs and activities we provide. Students are encouraged to study, learn, participate, contribute and make a positive difference at SMS. We want students to look forward to many enjoyable and worthwhile experiences. The policies and procedures detailed in this handbook are the result of a collaborative effort on the part of the faculty, administration, parents and students. This information will be valuable in helping students to adjust and become an integral part of our middle school.
The Seymour Board of Education policies and administrative procedures and practices change throughout the school year. The latest policies and administrative regulations are available at the Board of Education offices, and on the district website at this link: Click Here or visit: https://www.seymourschools.org/board-of-education/policies. If you have any questions about the applicability of a particular policy to a specific situation, questions may be directed to an appropriate administrator.

Additionally, the district promotes non-discrimination and an environment free of harassment based upon an individual’s race, color, religious creed, religion, sex, age, national origin, ancestry, marital status, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, disability (including but not limited to, present or past history of mental disability, intellectual disability, learning disability or physical disability, including, but not limited to, blindness), genetic information, or any other basis prohibited by Connecticut State and/or Federal nondiscrimination laws in all of its employment practices, educational programs, and educational activities. School Cancellations/Delayed Opening
When hazardous weather conditions exist without the hope of early improvement, school will be cancelled and announcements of the cancellation will be on the below-listed radio and television stations. A delayed opening procedure for Seymour Middle School will be implemented as follows:
The delayed opening of schools will take place on days when bad weather conditions make a normal opening inadvisable, but the likelihood of improved weather conditions make a delayed opening of school a reasonable course of action.
On delayed opening days, all morning classes will begin two hours after their normal starting time and bus runs will be made two hours later than usual. “No School” announcements are made several times between 6:00 a.m. and 7:30 a.m. Also, feel free to check the district website for “No School” cancellations: www.seymourschools.org
Radio Stations:
WICC (AM) 600, WATR (AM) 1320, WELI (AM) 960, WEZN (FM) 99.9
Television Stations: WTNH – Channel 8, WVIT – Channel 30, WTIC – Channel 3
The Superintendent's Office also utilizes the Messenger system in PowerSchool, so parents and guards should make certain that contact information is always up to date in PowerSchool.
Please Note: When school is cancelled unexpectedly, that letter day (A or B) will be skipped and we will continue with the next letter day in succession.
