Advanced Math and World Language Placement (7th Grade)
At Seymour Middle School, we offer an advanced math track beginning in 7th grade. Students in this track will take high school-level Algebra in 8th grade. Those who do not qualify for this track will be placed in a regular 7th-grade math class. Additionally, some students may be placed in an accelerated math class, which is considered advanced but does not follow the same pace as the "Pre-Algebra" class.
We also offer a full-year Spanish course for 7th and 8th graders. Students who successfully complete both years are eligible to start at "Level 2" Spanish when they enter Seymour High School.
Placement decisions for these programs are based on a variety of criteria, including standardized test performance, subject-specific grades, and teacher recommendations. Each subject area is evaluated individually, allowing rising 7th graders to be considered for Advanced Math (Pre-Algebra) or Spanish based on their qualifications.
