Exclusions and Exemptions from School Attendance
The following students are subject to exemptions from usual requirements within the district:
A student who attends a private or parochial school;
A student who is handicapped, as defined by law, or for whom the P.P.T. has determined that the student is exempt from the attendance policy;
A student who has a temporary physical or mental handicap which renders attendance unfeasible, requiring a certificate from a qualified physician specifying the following:
Condition
Prescribed treatment
Anticipated length of absence
A student who has been suspended in accordance with the requirements of law;
A student who has been expelled in accordance with the requirements of law and who has been assigned to an alternative educational program, as appropriate;
A student who attends a non-public home-based educational program.
The parent(s) establishing a Home School Instruction Program will certify in writing on State of Connecticut forms furnished by the district for that purpose, a statement containing the name, age, place of residence and number of hours of attendance of each student enrolled in said program. These forms will be submitted for verification, signed by the Superintendent and kept on file. Periodic assessments of student progress are required and the results must be submitted to the district or to a private or parochial school in the state annually.
