Connecticut Public Act Section 10-223a states that “each local and regional board of education shall specify the basic skills necessary for graduation, and include a process to assess a student’s level of competency in such skills.”

Students will access, evaluate, and use information for a variety of tasks and purposes
Students will master appropriate content and skills from a variety of disciplines
All students will take four core content classes—Language Arts, Math, Science, and Social Studies—along with Physical Education for the full academic year. Additionally, students will take four Unified Arts classes each semester and are required to complete one semester of Health each year. The remaining Unified Arts options available to fill the schedule include Art, STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math), Music (with multiple options at SMS), Library Media, and World Language courses.
