School Issued Property
Each year, students are loaned Chromebooks, textbooks, paper back books, and, occasionally, other school property. These items are the property of the Seymour Board of Education, and students are expected to take good care of them and return them in the same condition as when they were received. Students who do not return school property will be responsible for the replacement cost. If an item is returned with unreasonable wear or damage, the student will be charged a fine. In the case of a damaged book, the student may also be charged for rebinding. Textbooks are numbered, and students must return the book with the same number that was issued to them. Textbooks must be covered at all times.
A student's final report card will be withheld until all payments due to the school have been made in full. Students will not be allowed to participate in Grade 8 end-of-year activities until all financial obligations have been met. Additionally, failure to pay for an elective trip or special event may disqualify a student from participating in future trips until the debt is paid. Students with unresolved library fines or fees may also be excluded from using the library. If a student's debt is not paid by the first day of their Grade 9 school year, it will be transferred to the high school.
We recognize that most students take great care in protecting school property, and we ask everyone to work together to support the responsible use of school materials.
