CRN 84529 - Moderate T/TH, 10-11:45

Nicola Salmon (Niki) and Charlene Schade (Char) team-teach Healthy Aging classes at two levels. Each level of class meets twice a week on Zoom for 1.5 hours of activities led by Niki Salmon followed by 15-30 minutes of discussion with Char and Niki. The activity section of class aims to build strength, endurance, flexibility, balance, mental acuity, and a sense of wellness being.

Char Schade prepares information on health related topics which are available for students to access on their own via Canvas and our Healthy Aging 2 website, but which will also be presented and discussed on Zoom following the exercise portion of class.

The two levels of class are:

1) Moderate (CRN 84529 - Zoom times 10:00-11:45 AM Tuesdays and Thursdays). In this class all endurance activities are done sitting, and the remainder of the class can be done sitting or standing.

2) Active (CRN 84527- Zoom times 10:00-11:45 AM Mondays and Wednesdays). In this active class all endurance activities are done standing, and the remainder of the class can be done sitting or standing.

Body Dynamics with Carol Phillips

Carol Phillips teaches four different types of classes under the Body Dynamics heading. They each feature different online sessions and unique curriculum. They include:


“Body Dynamics”:

This online class provides health information and class discussions. The virtual sessions are held weekly via Zoom on Monday 3:30 – 5:00pm. These Zoom sessions include low-impact cardio standing and seated exercises choreographed to music. A sturdy chair is optional. Participants need to be prepared for physical activity in the home.

“Stretch and Strength for Healthier Joints”:

This online class provides health information and class discussions. The virtual sessions are held weekly via Zoom on Tuesday 1:00 – 2:30pm. These Zoom sessions include seated and standing exercises for the body joints such as hands, shoulders, knees and ankles. A sturdy chair is needed. No floor work in this class. Participants need to be prepared for exercising in the home.

“Core Strength and More”:

This online class provides health information and class discussions. The virtual sessions are held weekly via Zoom on Wednesday 1:00pm – 2:30pm. These Zoom sessions include exercises to increase core muscle strength, range of movement, balance, and structural stability. A sturdy chair is optional. No floor work in this class. Participants need to be prepared for exercising in the home.

“Stretch and Balance”:

This online class provides health information and class discussions. The virtual sessions are held weekly via Zoom on Thursday 1:30 – 3:15pm. These Zoom sessions include exercises for stretch, balance, and relaxation. Participants may need a sturdy chair and includes optional floor work. Participants need to be prepared for exercising in the home.

Health Education with Sharon Gregory

CRN# 84467 (Spring 2022 class number)- Health Education for Older Adult is a class designed to educate the students on fitness and nutrition. The class exercise will include warm up stretches, low cardio, strength training with resistant bands and light weights, chair exercise, balance, and flexibility. This course is designed to help improve overall health and quality of life! A variety of nutrition topics will be discussed along with performing exercises. Weekly classes on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursdays from 10am-12pm via Zoom, starting February 2nd, 2022. Instructor: Sharon Gregory(sgregory001@sdccd.edu) for more information.

Health Education with Kathleen McIntyre: In Person at the Kroc Center

Movement for Healthy Joints will be in person this Spring, 2022.

Join us for a fun, challenging, and well-balanced exercise class. This class will have low-impact activities to increase your heart health, muscular endurance, and balance. We will be using handheld weights, resistance bands, and balls to promote strength, flexibility, and healthy bones. We can’t wait to see you!

Strength and Balance classes with Julie Bale

STRENGTH & BALANCE EXERCISE SERIES CLASS TYPES

There are 3 different types of Strength & Balance classes available in this exercise series. They include Cardio, Lower Body Total Body. Each of the classes have both synchronous (Zoom session) and asynchronous instruction (Canvas, email and pdf attachments).

Cardio Strength & Balance Class

#84738 9:30-10:30 MWF Cardio Strength & Balance Class:

Details:

The main purpose of this class is cardio. We begin with a warm-up/ stretch followed by a 30+/-minute Aerobic dance. The remainder of the class is an abbreviated version of the Strength & Balance Total Body, minus the floor workout. During this class, the strength exercises will incorporate body weight, resistance bands and weights. The movements will consist of mostly standing and seated workout, no group floor workout. Students will be taught modifications for exercises depending on physical needs utilizing class instruction, handouts and class website.

Strength & Balance Lower Body Class

Details:

A full body exercise class, focusing on lower body strength exercises, core training and balance exercises. There is a dynamic warm-up/ stretch (8-10 minutes) in this class but no aerobic dance portion included. The strength exercises portion of the class will utilize mainly body weight exercises, with resistance bands and some form of hand weights. The class movements will consist of standing, seated and floor work. Students will be taught modifications for exercises depending on physical needs utilizing class instruction, handouts and class website.
