A two day clinic and try-out will be held to determine this year’s cheerleading team. During the clinic, a sideline cheer and a dance will be taught. Both will be performed and scored during try outs. The score card used to judge performances includes categories such as precision, memory of routine, and skill. Keller cheerleaders will perform at both home and away games for the boys basketball team. It’s a Monday through Friday commitment with the exception of Wednesday. Try outs will be October 24th and 25th. You can talk to Mrs. Leiva or Ms. Neofotistos if you have any questions about the team. Good luck cheer squad!
It's a lost art that shouldn't die young...being able to write in cursive that is because, let's face it, at some point in your life you will need to sign a check, a mortgage, a social security card, etc. These are critical items that represent you financially, as well as an individual in society. With technology as advanced as it is these days, it is becoming even easier for crooks to forge your identity. Besides these pointers, being able to write in cursive is such a beautiful skill. Having trouble trying to read grandma's handwritten card on your birthday? That's because she was taught how to write in cursive decades ago and this style is slowly slipping away. In addition, most professions today require that you have, at the minimum, entry level keyboarding skills to fulfill your job role. No one wants to be known as that person who pecks away at the keys in loud annoyance because they never properly learned how to type. These indicators aside, Ms. Johnson has created the keyboarding and cursive club for you because she realizes how critical these components are to a successful future. Please feel free to join her twice a month on Tuesdays through the second trimester to sharpen your skills. The next session is on Tuesday, November 5th, in room 122.
Do you like plays, musicales, acting, singing, and/ or dancing? Well, book club is the right club for you. Now book club is NOT about reading books, book club is far away from that. This club was organized by Mrs.Painter, our librarian, and it is held every Monday in the LMC. I did book club last year, and this is my second year. Book club is really fun, we get to act out plays and then watch the actual movie. Right now we are acting out "The Hasty Heart." We are welcoming anyone who'd like to join. Go to the LMC to get a permission slip from Mrs.Painter. See you there!
A quote from Mrs.Painter: "Here in book club we have fun learning about the different ways of literature. We want to use our voices in a theatrical way. Now a days kids are into technologies that they don't acknowledge plays anymore, but here we are bringing back theater alive again."
Are you tired of your parents constantly asking you every night if your homework is done? Are bad grades catching up to you? Well, after school study is a place for success! This Keller program is available to all students every Tuesday and Thursday in the LMC from 2:15 to 3:50 p.m. Students have the opportunity to work by themselves or in groups to complete their homework. Additionally, students have the freedom to work on projects with their peers or independently if they so choose. “You can test each other with flashcards,” says Priya D. Amanda S. also says, “If you don’t understand something, you can ask each other for help.” Since homelife can be too noisy or distracting, or if students have trouble focusing, this is a quiet environment to complete classwork. “It helps me get my homework done without any distractions,” Alanna J. tells us. Or, if you just have extra homework that you want to work on in peace and quiet, after school study is the perfect place to finish it! “I have the most homework in language arts. We are learning how to write an A.C.E. response,” Madison D. reveals. Yusra F. details that, “I have the most homework in science. We’re learning about atoms, elements, and different chemicals.” You can also get extra help if you are confused about a certain subject or topic. If you are concerned with transportation, there is an activity bus which will drop you off at home, or you can walk or be picked up. So, even though your parents probably aren’t going to stop bugging you about school or homework, at least when they ask you’ll be able to say that everything is going great thanks to after school study.
