What Does Spring Mean to You?

This month's contest encompasses all things spring! Why is it such a pulchritudinous season? Why is spring celebrated as a time of organic and spiritual rebirth following the dying of the year in winter? Think about these questions carefully. Entering this contest is easy; either draw, take a picture, or write a poem about the meaning of spring to you. The winner of this contest will get a crocheted stuffed animal and a poem from one of our very own newsletter staff members!

Halcyon Love

My calm lover, you inspire me to write.

How I love the way you smile, talk and walk,

Invading my mind day and through the night,

Always loving through the block.

Let me compare you to a God

You are more cunning, stunning and loyal.

Ice bites the debris of February,

And wintertime has the princess royal.

How do I love you? Let me count the ways.

I love your glorious hair, face and eyes.

Thinking of your sunny short fills my days.

My love for you is the royal surprise.

Now I must away with a mystic heart,

Remember my grave words whilst we're apart.

Cheese in My Sleeve

There's cheese in my sleeve

I think I put it there on purpose though I can't be sure

I'm pretty sure it wasn't on accident

Because I think if it were an accident

I’d be disappointed to find it sitting there in my sleeve

The cheese never bothers me like most things

you’d imagine being stuck in your sleeve would

I am quite happy with my cheese in my sleeve

And I believe it is happy in my sleeve

So I’m quite sure it was on purpose you see

Though there is a part of me that isn't so sure

Do I deserve a cheese to accompany me in my sleeve wherever I go?

And if it were an accident does it really matter?

I like having this cheese in my sleeve

It shouldn't matter why it's there

All that matters in my eyes is that it is there, in my sleeve

And that it is happy.

So I suppose the only question I have is

Do I deserve it?

Well, I suppose I should ask the cheese in my sleeve, shouldn’t I?

My Brother's Cries

His soft words ring through my mind like a symphony

I can hear your cries

I can see you weep

I can feel you struggle to leave my brace while I restrain you

I refuse to let you holler hate towards the one I love

My dear brother the words "I don't deserve love" makes my soul yearn

I can only see you struggle but never see you eye to eye

All I want is for you know that you deserve love, you deserve family, you have us

You have me wrapped around your tiny finger

You have me captivated upon your frosty gray eyes

The ones you hate

The ones you see yourself through

I have only one wish for you

And that is for you to find self contempt in this life or the next

I am here

I can help you

Please stop protesting those awful phrases you screech.
