Since their first meeting, WE club has focused a lot on labels, biases, getting to know ourselves, who we are, and how we describe ourselves. Recently, WE club members came up with an interesting motto: LABELS ARE 4 FOOD, NOT PEOPLE! This motto was created after a long discussion about how people tend to label others and finally coming to a conclusion of labels are created to describe food packages NOT people. In one of their meetings, the students in the club with the director, Mr. Kaper, were making a list of labels they have been called. They had a discussion about why they chose those words, how it affected them, and why it's wrong to label others. Some of the words were: nerd, dumb, gamer, disabled, skinny, fat, lame, etc. Everyone agreed that no one should introduce themselves with a label because that doesn't really describe who they are! Labels again are used to describe objects not humans.
The overall idea of WE club is about being open minded with other's opinions and accepting people's different diversities. It was a clever idea to add this club into our extra curricular activities. Everyone in this club works together to embrace differences and promote equality. This after school group helps students find their own worth, be aware of biases to better connect with others, and define one's self without labeling.
WE club is led by Mr. Kaper, Mrs. McGinn, and Dr. Kwak. They meet sometime on Thursday of every month in Rm. 125. The topic changes for every meeting. This club is open to any type of ideas. Everyone has a chance to speak what's on their mind without being judged. We are very happy to have this club. It has so much meaning!

Members just having some fun
Reporter: First and foremost, how did you feel about this year's geography bee?
Mrs. Ghani: To be honest, this year's geography bee was so much fun. It was a nice experience to have every year with different contestants, but it was fun. I'm glad I did the geography bee!
Reporter: Do you enjoy doing the geography bee?
Mrs. Ghani: I sure do. As I said, every year the geography bee is different and entertaining at the same time.
Reporter: Ok, last question; what's your message to anyone who wants to join geography bee for next year?
Mrs. Ghani: My message to anyone who wants to join the geography bee...come to the bee confidently and bring a smile with you!
Reporter: How did it feel to win?
Siya: I didn't believe myself! When I entered I wasn't thinking about winning or losing. I was surprised that I had so much knowledge!
Reporter: Were you nervous when it came down to the finals?
Siya: I wasn't nervous at all. Most of the questions where about places that I either went to or my parents went to; so I was 90% sure of my answers. *Laughs!*
Reporter: Can you provide advice for anyone interested in joining the geography bee in years to come?
Siya: It's only this ONE advice - don't enter the geography bee expecting to win. The geography bee is kind of tricky. You need to be careful and analyze the question carefully!
