The art club is the perfect spot for creative types; it allows you the ability to express all forms of art including, but not limited to, doodling, painting, music, and 3-D forms like clay and crafts. The art club is extremely open to new ideas, and if you have any suggestions for new kinds of art (that's school appropriate) we're most likely to allow it. This creative club is also great as an outlet for being social as our members are very open with group projects and new people joining. If you're interested, sign up sheets are outside of Mrs. Engel's room and is held in the art room on most Thursdays. If you can't show up on some days, just give Mrs. Engel a heads up as we are extremely flexible with the schedule.
To begin with, chess is a game where you develop the skill of problem-solving. Chess is a complicated game, so you need to use lots of problem solving techniques to figure out your next move. Naturally, you start using this skill with your daily life tasks. Solving problems would just be a regular lifestyle for you.
In a chess game you plan every step, you can't make a move without planning any of your steps. This also teaches you a good life skill, especially if you are someone who is very unorganized.
Patience is also a well-known skill in chess. To guarantee your win in this hard game, you need to have LOTS of patience. As I was interviewing the students who signed up, I noticed that the answers were all similar: "Chess is fun, but it takes a lot of focus and patience." Walking around the room, I saw everyone staring at the chess board thinking of what step they should take next. Being focused and patient are important factors in chess and the students who practice these skills every time they play have a greater chance of using those two factors in their life.
Also, as I was interviewing the students I found this response interesting: "The more I practice in chess, the more knowledge I would have in everything else around me." I found this intriguing because this really shows that chess is more than just a game. The skills that are used in chess are mostly used in the outside world too.

Our junior high newsletter club is basically an outlet to show off some different skills our students have with writing, web design, editing, and photography. Our club is very flexible. It's quite simple in fact, if you have an idea, share it with us. Anything can be added here as we are ALWAYS welcoming new ideas! One special thing about us too is we accept anonymous submissions. So if you want to write something, send it our way to one of the emails below so we can post it. If you are interested in joining or have any new ideas in how to advance our newsletter, please email us as well. If you would like more information about our club, please contact Mrs. Younkin or Mrs. Engel.

FUSE Club is a fun extracurricular destination where students can participate in many enjoyable activities. For example, some of the enticing projects are spaghetti structures, dream home, and an opportunity where you get to build your own controller for a mini game. The most cheering part about this club is that it is a “join when you can” club, which means that if you don’t come to all of the meetings, that is completely ok. If you are reconsidering joining FUSE Club, speak with Ms. Hundley and you can get a permission slip. We meet on Mondays and Thursdays in the STEM room from 2:15 to 3:50 p.m.
