That was the first thing students saw on the screen as they entered the gym to be present for the assembly. Later, as the slide switched, it showcased this quote: "A hero is someone who has given his or her life to something bigger than oneself." Mr. Barbini then played a video about heroism. The video was about people helping each other without expecting anything in return. Happiness, hope, power, love, all things that make up a hero and that's what Keller Wildcats learned in this assembly introduction.
After that, Mr. Barbini stated that as a school we collected 430 High Fives for the One Word Challenge. The people who got the most High Fives were: Isabel S., Ed R., Rakshitha S., Siya C., and Jason M. Then, as usual for every assembly, there were questions asked and prizes given out to those who got the questions right.
Even though it was a half day on a Wednesday, the students were so elated with this assembly. It was one of a kind. And...they all learned what constitutes a hero. Way to go Wildcats!
This year, the eighth grade teachers created a "Nuremberg Trial Simulation." In this simulation, the students got to take on the role of juries, the Nazi that was actually put on trial, bailiff, and defense attorney. Our eighth grade Social Studies teachers, Mr. Stephens and Ms. Johnson, decided to create this simulation so students could understand the real panic that happened during the Nuremberg Trial. They did it because they also wanted us to learn about this topic in more realistic way. This experience was great because students learned a lot. Juries had the fate of those nine people on trial, the defense attorney had to help the people who were put on trial, and the student who took the role of the Nazi had to make a story to get them to freedom and not sentenced to death. This simulation was challenging, yet filled the student with rapture. Much gratitude to Mr. Stephens and Ms. Johnson for making this simulation and a big thanks to every eighth grader who participated in event!

Zombies are everywhere! And they’re hungry...hungry for...PIZZA! Trapped in the backroom, can you get the codes, rescue the pizza, and defeat the zombies? We know what you're thinking. "I've seen Zombieland. The Walking Dead has taken over my DVR. I've played Resident Evil 6 and almost 900 zombie-related games on Kongregate. But you have yet to crack Keller’s code so here is your chance.
The event on February 27th was a big success and everyone who came enjoyed playing and having their free pizza and snow cones. Another thing that happened is that Mrs. Sitko and Mr. Kaper dressed up as zombies for the occasion. In addition, the entire cafeteria was decorated specifically like a zombie science lab. Thank you to the people who came and helped for the Math and Literacy Night and a special thanks to Old Town Pizza Co. for making a large amount of pizzas for us.
