Active Living 11 and 12 focus on promoting healthy attitudes and regular physical activity as key parts of a student’s lifestyle. The course emphasizes personal fitness, leadership, and sports management skills, offering activities like Frisbee golf, hiking, and rock climbing.
Necessary components of Active Living 11 or 12 include:
Implementation and completion of a fitness program
Completion of at least 10 community service hours
Completion of a leadership presentation
Successful attendance and participation
This course is open to grade 10-12 students and involves physical training for basketball, skill development, team development, coaching & refereeing. Students will dive deeper into the strategies and systems for basketball, and how to train their bodies to be the best player they can be. This class will include fitness & conditioning, run days, drills, games play, and some classroom days geared towards the sport.
This course is for students motivated to achieve personal fitness goals while learning about training, fitness, and conditioning. Group workouts led by the teacher will keep things engaging, and students will create personalized training plans after learning key principles. Weekly individual workout days focus on personal goals, with occasional sports game days for variety. Students will learn proper techniques, nutrition, recovery, and health concepts to support long-term fitness.
This course provides cyclists of all abilities the opportunity to earn high school credits while developing skills, exploring career opportunities, and building character in Canada’s mountain bike capital. This year-long course includes a comprehensive cycling skills program, cross and sport-specific training, exercise physiology and metabolism, personal growth and leadership. Students will begin the year with cross-training, sport-specific training, goal setting and risk management and will cycle outdoors throughout the year as the weather allows. This program is open to students in grades 10 through 12 and is suitable for riders of all abilities. (This course runs outside the timetable).
