Career Life Education aims to provide students with a greater understanding of their personal development and career decisions. Students will gain an understanding of Regional and Global trends and how they play into possible career opportunities. They will take steps to develop a digital portfolio and a personal post-secondary plan while building a foundation for their culminating Career Life Connections/Capstone project that they will present in Grade 12.
Students are encouraged to prepare for life after secondary school through participation in a Career Program during Grade 11 and 12. Students may choose from many different work experience options that cover a wide area of career possibilities. Students who wish to take work experience need to sign up for two or four blocks per semester if they want it within the timetable. This course may be taken outside the school timetable or in the summer months.
PEER TUTORING 11 AND 12(YIPS-1APTU/YIPS-2APTU)
Peer tutoring is a locally developed course for senior students (Gr. 11 or 12) who are interested in providing classroom assistance at HSS during one of their blocks.
Once enrolled in the Peer Tutoring Program, we will match student interests & skills with courses and staff that are looking for support. Students are asked not to set up their own pairings.
Youth Work in Trades is a provincial career program that is a combination of the SkilledTradesBC and the Ministry of Education leading to secondary school graduation. It enables students to move directly into the apprenticeship training system while attending high school.
Students are registered as apprentices through the Career Programs office.
