French Immersion 11 includes three mandatory courses:
This is a language/literature course that covers advanced aspects of French grammar. It provides exposure to French culture and literature through poetry, film, and a major novel. Also, most importantly, students should be able to sustain a spontaneous discussion by sharing relevant ideas, interacting with francophones and having real-life experiences in the French-speaking world.
All students who are in the immersion program must take the Explorations en Sciences Humaines et Sociales 11 course. This course explores demographic patterns, human activities, and the global interconnectedness of our world.
Education a la Vie Professionnelle aims to provide students with a greater understanding of their personal development and career decisions. Students will gain an understanding of Regional and Global trends and how they play into possible career opportunities. They will take steps to develop a digital portfolio and a personal post-secondary plan while building a foundation for their culminating capstone project that they will present in Grade 12. This course is taught in French.
French Immersion 12 includes one mandatory course:
To complete the French Immersion Program, students need this language/literature course. Equal emphasis is given to oral and written skills. Also, most importantly, one major project involving collaboration, creativity, contribution and critical thinking is at the heart of this course. Successful completion of this course and the required literacy assessment will result in a bilingual diploma.
Elective course: French Immersion students are also able to take the following elective class for additional French Immersion credits:
This elective French immersion conversation course is a year-long elective designed for students who want to strengthen their spoken French through active, real-world communication. Offered twice a week over the lunch break, this course focuses on developing fluency, confidence, and listening skills through structured conversation and discussion. Due to the interactive nature of the class, students are expected to attend regularly, arrive on time, and come prepared to participate. Preparation includes watching assigned French-language visual media before class, which will serve as the basis for in-class conversations and assignments. This course is open to all French Immersion students. This course does not replace any of the required courses above.
