This fall season was packed with energy, hard work, and unforgettable moments across all
sports. The athletes gave everything. The athletes gave everything they had, and it showed in
every game , meet, and match. The soccer teams battled through their schedules, showing
impressive teamwork and determination. Both teams had a playoff run, and the girls' team even
finished with an undefeated season. The football team delivered a season full of intensity and
heart while learning to adapt after challenging injuries and a loss of some of their starters last
season. On the court, the volleyball team dominated with powerful serves and unstoppable
rallies and had a long run in district and county playoffs. Cross country pushed through mile
after mile, leaving an impressive mark with their resilience and pride. Meanwhile, both golf and
girls' tennis showed incredible sportsmanship throughout the season in their intense matches.
They also had a great performance, hitting personal bests and making an immense playoff run.
Overall, the fall season was highlighted by dedication from every athlete and coach. With
countless improvements and inspiring performances, the fall sports programs continue to rise
every year. - Amelia Falsone (senior)
If you’re looking for something to do this winter, try stopping in to support our
winter athletes at one of their competitions! Schuylkill Valley currently has seven winter
sports teams, which include girls' and boys' basketball and wrestling teams, as well as
coed swimming, competitive spirit, and unified bocce ball teams. Although it’s early in
the season, some of our teams have already been competing! The coed competitive
spirit team recently competed in Districts, where they placed 2nd in the coed division,
which means they are headed to states in January of 2026. The boys’ basketball team
is currently 2-3 in wins and losses, and is ranked at the bottom of Division 3 despite
their wins against Upper Perkiomen and Tamaqua. They have 7 home games left in the
season, with the next one scheduled for December 12th against Fleetwood.
The girls’ basketball team is off to a strong start, and is currently 3-1 in wins and
losses, and is ranked at the top of Division 3 due to their wins against Wyomissing,
Tulpehocken, and Pine Grove. They have 11 home games left in the season, with the
next one scheduled for December 10th against Fleetwood. Both the boys’ and girls’
wrestling teams are currently 0-1 in wins and losses, with both falling to Pine Grove.
The boys’ wrestling team has 4 home matches left in the season, with the next one
scheduled for December 17th against Hamburg. Meanwhile, the girls’ team has 3 home
matches left in the season, with their next one also scheduled for December 17th
against Hamburg.
The coed unified bocce ball team has not yet had a competition, but they are still
practicing hard! They have 3 home competitions, with the first being scheduled for
January 13th against Brandywine Heights. The coed swim team is also off to a strong
start with their win over Reading recently, with the boys’ scores ending as 116-61 and
the girls’ scores ending as 135-45. Both the girls and the boys are tied for 1st in the
division with Exeter. They have 5 home meets left in their season, with the next one
being scheduled for December 11th against Upper Perkiomen. Although some teams
have had rough starts, it’s still early in the season, and everyone could always use
some encouragement. So, try to stop by competitions when you can! - Rileigh Martin (junior)
Rhode Island Dreams
“LAFAYETTE! I’m taking this horse by the reins, makin’ redcoats redder with bloodstains!” As soon as I heard those lines sung in The Broadway Theatre at 14 years old, I knew what I wanted to make of myself. I never knew how I wanted to continue my life after high-school, but in that meer singular moment I knew exactly what to do. Just to imagine it was a dream come true, a small town boy from a dead-end town that time forgot in southern Rhode Island becomes a big-time actor on Broadway, touring the country, maybe even the world. It’s unheard of but there’s no harm in trying. The theatre mesmorized me from then on. My family never believed in me though. They all said I should go where the money is easier; to be a lawyer or a doctor, but if I can’t enjoy my career, what is even the point of having a job or even a life. The only one who ever believed in me was my best friend of all time. She is the only person that understands me. We both moved to New York City the summer after graduating and started our advanced education at the University of New York. I went into their highly popular theatrical arts major while she went into the fashion major they offer. Working at two diners at night and attending classes all day didn’t leave much room in my day for sleep, plus my recent diagnosis of stress-induced insomnia didn’t help either.Money was tight but it was exactly what I wanted. Dreams can only be reached through hard work and sacrifice, my sacrifice being sleep. Dreams can only ever be dreams by doing nothing. On a random Tuesday morning, I received a letter, the first one in the three and a half years I’ve been attending school. It was from Richard Rogers Theatre, the theater that Hamilton opened in, in 2015. They wanted me to try out to be a background actor in some of their upcoming shows after a recruiter saw me lead in NYU’s production of The Phantom of The Opera. I really hope that I’ll land the position and finally achieve what I’ve been working towards these last eight years. If I don’t, I’ll just have to continue trying and refine my skills even more. To give up trying, is to give up on life. - Grant Miller (senior)
