Ms. Smith
Ms. Smith is a blossoming teacher at just 22 years old. Don’t let her age fool you, she is very passionate about reading, writing, and literature. She is inspired by past teachers and how wonderful they were. Throughout her school journey at Parkland School District, she had many wonderful teachers and role models who deepened her passion for literature. Last year she taught at East Penn SD and transitioned smoothly to Schuylkill Valley through a job opening. She plans to make the curriculum interesting and relevant by reading diverse texts, encouraging student engagement, and discussion, and deep dives into how English can apply to their own lives. Ms. Smith loves to write poems and short stories. Her book series is Percy Jackson by Rick Riordan and her favorite book is Drums, Girls, and Dangerous Pie by Jordan Sonnenblick. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her partner, family, and friends. She’s currently in charge of the Literary Magazine here at SV and intends to collaborate with Ms. Rowles-Cramer on different projects and spread the word about the club. Leading the club, she would include student poems and writing from a variety of classes and strive for the club to be student-led. Ms. Smith is excited to see how students improve their writing, grow as people, and become more passionate about English. She takes pride and ownership in seeing her students grow, just like her teachers did. Ms. Smith plans to stay and grow here.

Ms. DeAngelo
Miss Deangelo is one of the new teachers here at the high school. This is her first year teaching, both here at SV and in general. Although she may seem that she’s always seen teaching English as a career choice, throughout her years in high school she went through a few ideas of what she wanted to pursue. These choices ranged from journalist to chemist. What she loves most about teaching English is that there are no right or wrong answers. Anyone’s interpretation of a book is correct. A goal that she has for her current students to achieve by the end of the year is encouraging them to enjoy reading a little bit more and see it as less of a challenge. On her journey as a teacher this year, she is most excited about learning from her students, what works best for them, and what makes them interested in reading and writing. She plans to stay here at SV for a long time.

Ms. LaMana
Ms. LaMana teaches tenth and eleventh-grade English. She graduated from Salisbury High School, class of 2019. She went to Penn State Hazleton, for two years, until Covid occurred. When she went to College, she played softball for the college team. She then transferred to Kutztown University, graduating in the fall of 2023. After graduation she got a teaching position at Dieruff High School; she claims it's very different from SV. She taught there for 2 months before deciding to come to our school. When she was younger, one of her English teachers made the subject unenjoyable. This inspired her to grow up to be the complete opposite of that English teacher, and bring a positive environment and input to the students. She listens to her students' opinions and does activities to help them enjoy what's being taught. Ms. Lamana loves softball and theater. Also, she enjoys playing video games such as “Apex” and “Minecraft” on her Xbox. She has a cat who is almost her lover, his name is Leon. Leon is an orange tabby cat, he is seven years old. She is a coach for field hockey and head coach of the junior high softball team. She runs a debate club, which is very popular throughout the school! She enjoys learning about the students she teaches and seeing how they grow throughout the school year. Teaching was her first career choice since her junior year of high school. She teaches English because she feels writing and reading are personal activities. She enjoys the flexibility of English when she teaches.

Mr. Miller
Mr. Miller is the new chorus, piano, and theater teacher. He only recently became a teacher after working as a warehouse worker previously. He enjoyed being a leader in his musical career which motivated him to become a teacher. Becoming a teacher was not his first career choice. Mr. Miller loves the creativity factor of music. He believes that you can’t judge correctness. His biggest pet peeve as a teacher is when students make fun of other students. Mr. Miller’s favorite songs are Adagio for Strings by Samuel Barber and Requiem by Gabriel Faure and his favorite singer is Pavarotti.

Ms. Kyzer
Ms. Kyzer, the music director for the marching, concert, and jazz bands, is one of the many new teachers we have this year for the 2024–2025 school year.
Some may be asking themselves “What can we expect from them?” to find out we have asked her a few questions:
“What inspired you to become a teacher and how did you choose this subject?”
Originally wanting to become a veterinarian, Ms. Kyzer decided to change her career path after discovering her passion for instruments in her band class. After being selected to lead the band in class one day, she aspired to reach her current position. This experience inspired her to where she is today.
“How has your experience been so far at our school?”
Everyone has been helpful towards her ever since her first day during band camp not knowing who, how many people there would be, or what instruments she would have access to. Within that day everyone helped her around, showed her where things were, and genuinely made her feel welcomed into the school.
“How would you describe your teaching style?”
Having a set of expectations and seeing how independent high school students are she has decided to have students have more leadership opportunities
“What do you enjoy most about working with students?”
Ms. Kyzer finds joy in not only teaching her students but also learning from them. She values the opportunity to explore new teaching styles and gain ideas from her students.
“Final question, what advice would you give to anyone out there?”
“Make sure you prioritize time for your own interests and hobbies, making sure you have your work done”
