Book Review ~ Everything, Everything
Everything, Everything is a charming and entertaining book. This novel by Nicola Yoon is about 18-year-old Maddy who has a rare but deadly disease known as SCID or “boy in a bubble disease”. SCID is a disease that weakens the immune system to the point that contact with the outside world is deadly. Maddy has not left her house in over 17 years, she has never experienced an average teenage life, and the only people she sees are her mother and nurse, Carla. Her life is a palindrome; the same backwards and forwards. Every day is the same until it isn’t. With the arrival of the new next-door neighbor, Olly comes a thrilling twist to Maddy’s life. Maddy has to choose between staying alive and truly living. “Everything is a risk. Not doing anything is a risk. It’s up to you.” The plot of Everything, Everything is thought-provoking, heartfelt, and captivating. The shocking plot twists and dynamic writing style make for a fast-paced read. If you enjoy lighthearted romance or engaging realistic fiction you will enjoy this book. It is a solid 4/5 and I would recommend it!
