Name Isabel Consugar
Grade 12
How many years have you been a part of the musical? 4 (counting this year)
Why did you decide to try out for the musical this year? I’ve done the musical every year. It was a bit of an arm twist for Mrs. Makosch to get me into it in my freshman year, but once I was in, I was hooked. Ever since then, I’ve tried out for leads, and it’s really stretched me as a performer. Learning new techniques, being extremely uncomfortable, and being able to do these things in a safe space are really important to me. Trying out for a show can be really vulnerable, but POP has a really supportive environment and no one makes fun of you even if you royally screw up.
How would you describe the experience of being in the musical? POP is a family. It has to be, really, because no one else understands what it’s like to be at the end of yourself and so tired and still keep performing. We are the tightest group I’ve ever been a part of, and even though there are smaller groups within it, we truly are a family together.

How would you describe the experience of being in the musical? One of the best experiences I have ever had. All the songs and dances are great. The chemistry between everyone's characters this year is fantastic. The cast that we have is one of the best I have seen in my 5 years of doing this and I hope it gets better.
Grade 12
Role Teen Angel
How many years have you been a part of the musical? I have been in the musical for five years.
Why did you decide to try out for the musical this year? I’ll admit, I was a little hesitant when Grease was revealed as the musical. I knew nothing about it until Mr. Miller revealed the plot, and then I watched the movie. I ended up loving it, and Beauty School Dropout particularly stuck out to me. Teen Angel was such a funny and sarcastic character, and it was at that moment that I knew I wanted to try out for him. To be clear, I would’ve tried out for the musical anyway after doing it for four years prior, but it was the first time I personally resonated with a certain character. I was overjoyed when I got the role and I can’t wait for the show this year.
How would you describe the experience of being in the musical? Being in POP is bittersweet. It’s hard work, and it saps your time away. Being in track during tech week means that I am at the school for 14 hours every day for a couple of weeks, and it is utterly exhausting. But the small moments of joy make it worth it. The first run-through, running to Sheetz after track, playing MarioKart on preview day. Despite the stress, I wouldn’t trade it for anything.

How would you describe the experience of being in the musical? Why did you decide to try out for the musical this year? I really love the vibes of Grease, combined with not being on stage last year, I was missing the spotlight a little. I was really hoping it was going to be Grease this year because I knew it would be a blast to be in, especially as a greaser.
How would you describe the experience of being in the musical? It’s finding a community of like-minded people, laughing about an idea you had for your character, rehearsing how you’re going to punch your friends on stage for a scene. It’s going over the choreography in your head over and over, then immediately freezing up when you have to actually do it. It’s something you only understand after you experience it for yourself. The connection, the community, the relief you feel when you don’t mess up on opening night, it’s a one of a kind experience that I’m sure most do the cast wouldn’t trade for the world.
