Enhanced Stem Curriculum

One of the core goals of a Verizon Innovation school is to Increase Student and Teacher Tech & STEM Proficiency. "STEM is a curriculum based on the idea of educating students in four specific disciplines — science, technology, engineering and mathematics — in an interdisciplinary and applied approach. Rather than teach the four disciplines as separate and discrete subjects, STEM integrates them into a cohesive learning paradigm based on real-world applications." -LiveScience.com

Computers at home

All students receive a Chrome Book to use while they are a member of the JHS 218 community. They may take it home to work on assignments and discover new ways to be productive and creative in a virtual environment.

Free WiFi

"At Verizon Innovative Learning Schools, every student receives a device with a data plan to support learning." The data should only be used for online learning. Playing games is not allowed and will quickly use up the data plan's minutes.

The VILS program will impact every aspect of education within our school. Students will have access to online learning within the school building in every class and at home. Each subject area will incorporate technology into their curriculum. The possibilities are endless!
