The vision of James P. Sinnott Magnet School for Health and Health Careers, JHS 218 – A Beacon of East New York – is a Community School that cultivates a winning culture of resiliency and academic excellence where everyone thrives.


Lisa Ann Igneri-Hermann is currently the Principal of James P. Sinnott Magnet Middle School for Health and Health Careers. She received her BFA from Hunter College in 1998 and was the recipient of the Estelle S. Levy Award; most likely to succeed in education. In 2002 she earned her MSEd in Administration from Bank Street College, Cum Laude. After her fifteen-year career as a Department of Education teacher, dean and Assistant Principal, she accepted the Principal-ship at James P. Sinnott, JHS 218 in 2013. In 2015 she was chosen by the Chancellor to be an Uncommon Charter School Principal fellow. She is currently moving into her twenty-third year in education and her eighth year as Principal of JHS 218. Under her leadership she has created a social responsive environment with awareness of culture, equity and community responsibility. At JHS 218 she has organized, arts sequences, NYPD Explorers, monthly Health campaigns, Annual Arts and Wellness fair, Steel Pan Ensemble, Spring Musical production, National Junior Honors Society, a dojo and updated the math and science department with technology, and students are on the path to college readiness. She has worked with her team to secure over four hundred thousand dollars from Reso-A funding to incorporate an A+ Engineering Stem Lab, technology upgrade. James P Sinnott is the recipient of 2020 Verizon Innovation grant. Her vision for James P. Sinnott Magnet School for Health and Health Careers, JHS 218; is a Beacon of East New York - is a Community School that cultivates a winning culture of resiliency and academic excellence where everyone thrives.

She is a transformational leader, executing social change, community partnerships and redefining generational legacies. In 2016 she received the Beacon of Hope award from the East New York United Concerned Citizens, Inc., City of New York Police Department, SSD, Partnership Awar, and in 2017, she was chosen as the Cityyear Red Jacket club Recipient. She is the past President (2017-2019) of Brooklyn Reading Council member, honorary member of Kappa Delta Pi 2018; International honor society, Brooklyn College, National Art Education Association, and Moms Demand Action. In 2019 she was recognized by the New York State Senate as a “Woman of Distinction” for her work in the district 19 community. Cypress Hills Development Corp. Also recognized her for her Community Progress with the Community Partner Award in September 2019. In addition to being a Principal, she has also been an adjunct professor of Art Education and a Fine Artist. She is a native of Southern Brooklyn and currently resides in Brooklyn, New York and loves celebrating life with her family and three sons.
