Ms. Meertens has been serving District 19 for over twenty years, first as a math teacher for eleven years and now as an Assistant Principal. Her love for math can be attributed to her seventh-grade math teacher. Each day, her teacher exuded and instilled a love for mathematics that was second to none and thus math became Ms. Meertens' passion.Â
Ms. Meertens first career was as an Accountant, then when the opportunity arose to become a seventh-grade math teacher, she quickly pursued this passion. After five years as a math teacher, she interviewed and was offered a lead teacher position at JHS 218 and then became an Assistant Principal. Whether creating school programs, facilitating professional development, writing grants, supporting honor students, students with disabilities and multilingual learners, Ms. Meertens strives to create structures that sustain a cohesive learning environment where everyone succeeds
