The James P. Sinnott Magnet School dance program under the direction of Zenobia Rodgers is dedicated to bringing out the best in our students to reach their full potential. We strive for excellence through instruction by fostering a sense of pride and achievement for middle school years and beyond. Our goal is not only to provide a solid technique in various dance styles but also to inspire a deep appreciation for the arts. Each class is approached as a laboratory for exploration, with both teacher and student engaged in deep discovery and discussion.

Dance is the hidden language of the soul of the body.” ~Martha Graham~

6th Grade Dance

Students will receive a beginning foundation of dance that encourages physical expression, creativity, and cooperation. They will learn the progression of a technique class through routine warm-ups and extensive movement phrases. Students will also engage in movement studies and compositional tasks to help them create and find their voice through the art of dance.

7th Grade Dance

Students will receive a variety of dance techniques and creative experiences to develop their movement potential through individual expression. At this level, classes are designed to facilitate technical ability by integrating vocabulary, critical thinking compositions, dance history, improvisation, and performance skills.

8th Grade Dance

Students will receive a comprehensive dance education that develops the student as an artist through opportunities to create, respond, and connect dance to personal experiences. At this level, students experience a more rigorous training in technique, choreography, improvisation, and performance skills to prepare for specialized high school auditions.
