OVERVIEW

Health & Wellness Education

The acquisition of basic health concepts and functional health knowledge provides a foundation for promoting health-enhancing behaviors among youth.

Health Education

Promoting an active lifestyle is supported by a comprehensive understanding of healthy mental and emotional habits. A complete wellness education curriculum supports and reinforces the goals and objectives of its two major components -- health and physical education. Schools play a vital role in the wellness of their students by providing opportunities for learning about and practicing healthy behaviors. Good student health fosters student attendance, improves school climate, enhances student performance, and decreases childhood obesity.

Physical and Health Education Integration

Both Physical Education and Health curricula integrate essential concepts that are based on established health behavior theories and models. Concepts included focus on the decision-making skills needed to identify, implement, and sustain health-enhancing behaviors. When applied to health issues, the decision-making process enables individuals to collaborate with others to improve their quality of life.

PHYSICAL EDUCATION

The JHS 218 P.E. program focuses on developing various skills to increase student awareness and activity. Students have the opportunity to improve their physical and emotional wellness to be able to maintain a healthy lifestyle through adulthood.

Students will enhance motor and social skills through team building activities, sports, and game playing. The middle school Phys Ed. course develops students' growth mindset by building confidence and critical thinking skills that will shape them into well rounded young adults, both inside and outside the classroom.
