Monday, March 28th--
Happy Monday,
I hope that you had an amazing weekend! Welcome to another week of math fun and excitement! We will begin with a celebration of Nougat. Nougat is a family of confections made with sugar or honey, roasted nuts, whipped egg whites, and sometimes chopped candied fruit. The consistency of nougat is chewy, and it is used in a variety of candy bars and chocolates. The word nougat comes from Occitan pan nogat, seemingly from Latin panis nucatus 'nut bread'. We will check out a Nougat recipe and then focus on a Nougat candy, Snickers. How many would you have to eat to get to 1,000 or 2,000 calories?
We will also chat about Spinach. The creator of the comic strip character, Popeye, E.C. Segar was a vegetarian and as a way of promoting the benefits of vegetables, he boosted his character’s strength with a known iron-rich food. Popeye has been portrayed since 1931.
On average, each American eats 1.4 kilograms (3 pounds) of spinach a year, according to the USDA: 0.9 kilogram 2 pounds of fresh spinach and 1 pound (0.45 kilograms) of processed spinach.
Saturday was also Nike Air Max Day...let's chat percentage as we check out some shoes.
Finally, March 28th is "Something on A Stick" Day...Let's check out a corndog eating competition....How many will the winner eat for a $2,500 prize?
Maybe even some Celtics Basketball too.
Of course, multiplication fact practice, number lines, matching, puzzles, ratios, rates, and more!
Have a great day,
Mr. Manchester

(Assume a 30 day month) Also, did you know that it is estimated the average American will have used 730 crayons by their 10th birthday. How many crayons is that on average per year?
Today also National Clam Day….Can I interest you in some New England Style Clam Pizza? This is the recipe for the day. Are you a fan? How does this compare to some of the other recipes that we have reviewed? Speaking of clams, the current World Record for clam eating is 26 dozen Cherrystone Clams in six minutes set at Peter's Clam Bar in 2010. This record was set by Sonya Thomas. Speaking of bread, did you know that the fastest time to butter 10 slices of bread is 20.8 seconds, and was achieved by Simarjit Chhabra from Australia in Los Angeles, California, on May 9th, 2018.
