Crawford Law Academy

Overview: The Crawford Academy Law senior project is called Lessons Learned. The seniors put together a google slides presentation reflecting on what they have learned while a student at Crawford and in the Academy of Law. The students reflect on their successes, failures, and what they would do differently if given the chance to do it all over again. Seniors present to students that are about to begin or already in their journey as a high school student and what they can do to make the most out of their time as a student. Crawford Academy of Law seniors will present to students at Mann Middle School and Crawford High School.

Project Initiation: Students reflected on their time as a student at Crawford High School and the Academy of Law. They are first asked about their personal and family history & reflect on roles and influences in their lives then the opportunities they have taken or missed, and how that affected their high school experience. Students joined the Academy of Law as Sophomores or Juniors, which allowed them to compare how their views of high school changed since their Freshmen year.

Project Exploration and Development: The main purpose of this project is to teach students the importance of reflection and the benefits of acknowledging their strengths and areas in their lives which they can improve upon. Another huge benefit of this project is the development of the students ability to speak with clarity and deliver an impactful message with the goal of influencing the next generation of high school students. The students worked on their Lessons Learned first semester in their Academy English class with Mr. Haro. Second semester, the Lessons Learned project was continued by the students in their Law class with Mr. Englebrecht.

Project Revision and Exhibition: The students had multiple opportunities for to review their presentation and to present in front of their peers This allowed for the students to gain confidence in speaking before a classroom of students and also make revisions on their presentation as they felt was needed. The students present their Lessons Learned before classes at Mann Middle School and Crawford High School to experience the varying reception of their message with the goal of improving with each consecutive presentation.
