Essential Question: How can we become environmental change agents while we honor the past, impact the present, and save our future?
6th Grade
Overview
Students will research environmental issues to be agents of change. They will explore the following topics:
1) Tiny plastics
2) Green Spaces vs. Cement Spaces and the effects on the environment
3) The San Diego River and creating positive changes.
Project Initiation
Through the design thinking process, student groups will examine environmental issues in the San Diego Community and educate others on the importance of making changes that impact the environment. Partners from the University of San Diego and our client, the San Diego River Park Foundation, will collaborate, innovate, and design possible solutions that can make positive changes in the community.
Project Exploration and Development
(English)- tiny plastics analytical paragraph, Canva poster, and Flipgrid for each student
(Math)- blueprint using geometry to create solutions along San Diego River
(History) -Compare and contrast Environmental Issues between the San Diego River and an ancient civilization, using slides.
(Science)- compare and contrast slides of Global vs Local Climate Changes through Water & Carbon cycles.

Project Revision and Exhibition
Students will be given the opportunity to share/reflect on their projects through student led conferences. San Diego River Park staff are planning on attending the virtual exhibition and then being available to proxy SLCs to give students a chance to reflect on their learning.
