How do students successfully work in teams to complete and compete in a chosen HOSA teamwork event?
Project Overview: HOSA-a future health professional career and technical student organization from University City High is showcasing some of the projects from the events they competed in at the State Leadership Conference.
Project Initiation: Students in HOSA chose either a teamwork or leadership event that they would complete and compete against other HOSA chapters from the state. Our events included Health Career Display, Medical Innovation, Biomedical Debate, Public Service Announcement. Each event has specific guidelines that students must follow. Students had opportunities each Thursday and a few Saturdays throughout Fall and Winter to prepare their event. They also worked on their event outside school.
Project Exploration & Development: Teams qualified for (by exam or project submission), and students competed in the Regional Leadership Conference. The top groups from CA then were invited to attend and compete in the State Leadership Conference. Our events included Health Career Display, Medical Innovation, Biomedical Debate, Public Service Announcement.
Project Revision & Exhibition: Advisors guided teams throught the project. After the Regional Leadership Conference students could revise their projects in preparation for State Leadership Conference. Once at the conference, before they competed, the advisors listened to presentations and offered constructive guidance as needed. Biomedical Debate won 10th and Medical Innovation won 9th. Teams are encouraged to compete again next year . They will use what they learned this year to improve on their events for next year.
