Peace And Wellness Strategies
How can we find, restore, and maintain mental and physical health in order to positively and effectively interact with our world?
Grade 6
Overview: Pershing Middle School students will explore various wellness strategies, advocate for their own well-being, and encourage the community to recognize the benefits of a healthy mind and body.
Project Initiation: Our project was launched during “Stress Week” in Science Class. The entire week was dedicated to learning about the causes and effects of stress on the Pershing Community with the purpose of finding student-initiated solutions.
Project Exploration and Development:
Students worked with the Pershing Wellness Committee to assess the health and wellness needs of our school community. In science, students completed a stress survey, gathered data to analyze the trends of stress at Pershing Middle School, and created a personal wellness plan in order to try various recommended stress-relief strategies throughout the semester.
6th-grade English students incorporated various wellness strategies within their daily classroom activities and wrote argumentative letters to the Wellness Committee and administration convincing them to incorporate more health and wellness programs at Pershing in future years.
SLIM/ALD students created podcasts that taught the school community various health and wellness strategies.
Students produced a variety of multimedia products (digital portfolio, stress infographics, and more) for the purpose of presenting various health and wellness strategies to support the growth of our school community.
Project Revision and Exhibition: Revise/reflect using Digital Portfolios. Share learning via research papers, argumentative letters, and pitching their ideas to peers and the Wellness Committee.
