This course is designed for students who have successfully completed American Sign Language 3-4. This course continues instruction begin in American Sign Language 3-4 and provides a third year of American Sign Language study. Students taking this course will be exposed to deaf culture, general interpreting techniques, reverse interpreting, and community resources for the deaf. Students meet and communicate with deaf individuals, and work on finger spelling speed and sign fluency. Students who successfully pass this course will possess the conversational skills necessary to enter an interpreter-training program. Credit for this course counts toward the world language credits required for high school graduation. The course is also approved in the Language Other than English (’e’) subject area for UC/CSU.
