If you intend to participate in Division I or II athletics as a college freshman, you must register and be certified by the NCAA Initial Eligibility Clearing House. The eligibility rules have been changed; students will be required to present a minimum of 16 core courses to the NCAA Initial Eligibility Clearinghouse upon graduation in order to qualify for athletically related financial aid, practice and competition in their first year of collegiate enrollment at an NCAA Division I institution.
After graduation from high school, the final certification report, which is based on high school classes taken from grades 8 (if they are on the high school transcript) through 12, will be evaluated under the following rules:
16 Core Courses
4 years of English
3 years of mathematics (Algebra I or higher)
2 years of natural / physical science (1 year of lab if offered by high school)
1 additional year in English, mathematics or natural / physical science
2 years of social science
4 years of additional courses (in any of the above areas or world language)
10 core courses must be completed before senior year. 7 core courses must be in English, Math, and Science. Students must have a cumulative GPA of 2.3.
Test Scores: May or may not be required, Please note that only test scores achieved under national testing conditions (ACT or SAT) on a national testing date are acceptable for initial eligibility purposes. The NCAA Clearinghouse will not accept scores achieved on state-administered, residual (campus) or regional testing dates..
