Historical Still Life

Paper Quilt

The subject of this image is my family history. This was taken on my desk but I used a leather bound book for the green back ground. I also used a pack of needles as a second background. I made this image by choosing four stamps to create the quilt. The orange stamp is from the US, purple from Palestine, green from Germany, and red from England. My dads mother and father came to the US from Germany through Palestine and my moms parents came from England. My dads Tennessee registration plate is from one of the many cars he has owned. My dads parents have gone to the Met many times both with us and without. The British coin on the right is from 1860-ish which is as early as I could find. The dreidel shows how Judaism has made an impact on our family. The needles show the needlework done by both my mom and dads parents and further represent the productive and preservative nature of them. I tried to balance the image by splitting the stamps down the middle and having two things on each side. There is also repetition in the stamps. I wish I had used something else to represent my mom because the only thing I used is the fact that this is a photo but that isn't really included in the photo.
