03. Shoescape drawing

ARTIST STATEMENT:

The assignment for this project was to draw our shoes and then pick a picture to draw in the background. The background picture did not have to make sense with the shoes, as part of the the assignment was to make what we drew sort of like a self portrait and to tell people our personalities.

The reason I picked to draw the shoes I did, is because they are the shoes that I have used for almost two years now, and they are worn and starting to tear in a few places, which is showing that I do a lot of things with my sneakers, like hiking. This is also shown by the background, which is a picture of a mountain (Mt. Blue, to be exact) and I remember hiking to get to that exact spot where we took the picture. So, the background shows that I like hiking and the outdoors.

The process of drawing this picture started with drawing the sneakers. I first found a way I liked them to be set up. Then, I drew them, keeping in mind all of the angles and different overlapping lines. After finishing with the shoes, I picked a background picture that I really liked. Something that we couldn't do, is use lines, so, after drawing the leaves, they needed to be only a profile, so I came up with the idea of drawing dark lines super close together. Then, for the mountain, I decided to do the same thing, but with lighter lines. I think I was pretty successful with this piece.
