11. Donate life project

ARTIST STATEMENT:

The subject of this piece is the human heart drawn in the center of the heart symbol. It's almost like a valentine's day card to someone, containing a heart. The materials I used to create this piece were paper, pencil and a sharpie to outline everything. For coming up with a design, I had a lot of trouble thinking of something to make for this image, as I was low on inspiration due to a small artist's block. I just decided to draw a human heart and go from there, and I kind of just doodled for a bit until I was happy with what I had.

The composition rule I use most in this piece is framing. This is shown in the heart framing in the human heart, putting your focus on the human heart and the words inside the heart symbol. This project evolved from almost nothing, just a small doodle of a human heart, to adding the heart on the outside, because I thought it was really funny, heart inside a heart, then I added the writing on the outside, as that phrase must be included, and then the writing on the inside, as it was just a small phrase I came up with.

There isn't much story behind this image, besides the overlaying narrative of "Be an organ donor." For me, there isn't much significance, as I was just trying out something new with the human heart, and I think it came out good. If I were to revisit this project, I think I would fix the lettering a little, as I think it's a little off, crooked and squished together.
