07. Words as Image Graphic Design

ARTIST STATEMENT:

The subject of this piece is a potato plant, seen from both below and above ground. The materials I used for this piece were just pencil and paper. I choose to create this piece, because my prompt word was the word 'potato', and I figured that, because potatoes are grown in the ground on the roots, that I could include my word in the most important part of the pant it's based off of.

The composition techniques used in this piece are Rule of Thirds and Informal Balance. These are shown in where the word is placed on the page, in relation to the plant itself, and how there is something on the whole page. This project was originally supposed to be outlined in sharpie, but due to time constraints, I had to cut that part of it, and just leave it in pencil.

There isn't much story to this, other than a potato plant growing, and some of the roots spelling out the word 'Potato'. This project doesn't really relate to my life, as I don't have much of an attachment to potatoes, and the prompt that I got wasn't written by me. I think if I were to do this project again, I would spend more time on the plant itself, and make it a bit bigger, as well as outline everything with sharpie.
