Mixed Media

Artists statement:

I drew this picture from a photograph. It is a collage. I used lots of different material: charcoal,ink and pencil. I drew the lion with charcoal and ink. I created with a thin eraser the thin hairs of the lion. I used ink for the darkest parts at the lion and at the car (Audi r8). For the background I used only charcoal. I used also the cross hatching technique in some parts of the picture. I drew the car with all three materials.

I think the picture has a big value strength. It has a really dark black and different strong greys. It has also contrast. The street is for example really light and the background black. I can also see movement because of the street. I think the picture is balanced. It is maybe a little bit more weight on the left.

At the beginning when I drew the lion I just drew it with ink but I couldn't get the right shade as in the real picture. So I added charcoal.

I think everybody sees a different meaning behind the picture. But I am thinking about that wherever you gonna go or wherever you travel to, somebody is looking over you and somebody is protecting you. I am really grateful to know this, because I am really far away from my home and I know that I am never alone!
