Artists Statement:
For my independent project I chose to make another scratchboard because I love to make scratchboards and I love the character of scratchboards. I chose to make a scratchboard of myself. I started with gridding out my picture and the scratchboard. Than I sketched my face with a soft pencil on the scratchboard. After that I started scratching with different thick tools. I also used the cross hatch technique.
It was actually more difficult as I thought it would be. Facial features are not easy! Although I gridded the picture, the mouth is still too far away from the nose and it looks a little weird. I like the eyes and the cheeks because there is a lot of value. I also like the ear because it looks really realistic.
